Challenges

Thursday, 5 November 2009

In the area of arts, specifically in the area of theory we have a lot of challenges. The career is not very known in the world but we have the chance to change this. First we have to take the advantage of the technology. In the arts, for example, the technology is so important and necessary for the contemporary style, like the Net art. In the theory and historic area the new technologies is so important because you can find in the internet a lot of vital information for investigations or thesis. The audio visual material is now so accessible compared to previous decades where the video record or the photography doesn’t exist.

In education is very important implement the teaching of the theory and the historic of arts because the new generations don’t know how to appreciate the art like paintings or sculptures, or know the news tendency in the arts. This is important for the cognitive development of the children and a correct development of the culture. Implement more projects in relation with the culture like create more spaces for the exposition of new artist, create artist activities in primaries and middles schools like music bands, drawing curses, theatre clubs.

The road is so large for solved all of this problems, is necessary a lot of energy and determination but in this country exists the resources; the only thing left is more people with experience ready to fight for that will.

my faculty

Thursday, 8 October 2009

I Study in the faculty of arts in the University of Chile located in the Campus Juan Gomez Milla. My first impression was not very good; I dislike the infrastructure compared to other buildings of the same Campus this faculty doesn’t seem like a faculty of arts.

In my class Project Management have to develop a project in relation with the arts and in my work group thought to adjust a part of the “Patio Ingles” for an exhibition of sculptures and works of art students all outdoors. The first step is to get the appropriate permits, once obtained permission would have to make an estimate of materials needed for the first stage: arranging the area

When we finish this first stage would continue with the call for students to submit their works. Works for the exhibition would be chosen by a group of teachers and will be exhibited for a week or two.

The main idea of this project is make to known the new artists, creating a living & entertaining, improving a common place for both of student and teachers.

well, this project is only to be presented in project management as a task, but I like the idea of fixing the "Patio ingles" and give a little more color to the faculty, maybe we could get started by fixing the bottomless trash

" a la chilena"

Thursday, 1 October 2009

What kinds of things make our identity?

For Brazil is the rhythm, for Argentina is the personality, for Mexico the joy way of living life ( dancing, mariachi, meals, etc.) but what about us?

For Chile are many factors, we are creative, friendly, charismatic, clever etc. But I think the Chilean people are knowing in other parts of the world for our peculiar way of solve the problems (“a la Chilena”) in other words the Chileans are imaginative or maybe because we have a special aura. I am not sure, but I know people of other countries by internet and they ask me “Can I ask you something? Are you Chilean, aren’t you?” and I answer them “yes, I am Chilean but… How do you know it?” They always answer me: “…I was sure about it”.

By now we becoming in a “winner society”, because we want to be the first in arriving, the first of the course, the first in job, the first to get the bus, the first to get the big piece of meat at the barbecue etc. that means we are changing our mentality.

Don’t forget in our days we are knowing for ours sporting people like the tennis player Fernando Gonzalez and the number one Marcelo Rios, the football players David Pizarro and Alexis Sanchez, the swimmer Kristel Kobrich. And I have to mention the most important t.v man in the world Don Francisco

At last, is curious but in the news or surfing in the net you have always find one or two or more news about Chileans in other countries doing something crazy. That is true, if you don’t believe me, look it for yourselves watching the video below:

Santiago York

Thursday, 24 September 2009

Santiago is a very big city (not compare with the New York city but is nice) with a lot of places to visit. The tourist can go to many places depending on their tastes. If they like the cultural tours, the first place go to visiting is the Cathedral next to the “plaza de armas”, after the Government PalaceLa Moneda” and its cultural centre that offers the public many exhibitions of varied content. The next place to visit is the “Bellas Artes” museum with a large collection of paintings and sculptures or the MAC (Museum of Contemporary Art). Well, one of is my favourite tours is the “San Cristobal” hill. In this place the tourist can find many places of interest like a Zoo with many types of animals or a Japanese Garden. Also are cable cars with which you can climb the hill or if you prefer to keep your feet on the ground can also be walking. In the Hill’s summit is a statue of the “Virgen Del Carmen” patron of Chile.

Santiago may seem a Gray city, but the tourists can find a lot of activities and places to see and visiting. However we must consider certain things:

1. Plan your travel whit time to avoid the problems

2. Always keep a map handy, you never know when you lose (I say this from my experience )

3. Always be careful with things like your camera or your money.

4. always fun all you can ^.^

The avant-garde: surrealism

Thursday, 3 September 2009

My favourite Avant-Garde is the surrealism, the last of the avant-garde.
The surrealism is an avant-garde movement began in the early 1920s. The surrealist ideas and his theories published in the “Surrealist Manifesto” in 1924. Surrealism searching to revived the “repressed” for occupy the same place in the world that the “real” for showing the “Total Reality”. For the surrealist movement the model should be an interior model like a dream.

Well, my favourite surrealist artist is René Magritte. He doesn’t work with the unconscious. He thinks he can be found the disturbing in the reality. Magritte use of ordinary objects in unfamiliar spaces is joined to his desire to create poetic imagery.
In 1960s the Magritte’s works is frequently used in publicity like books or music albums covers. As an example of this, the album “Beck-Ola” by the Jeff Beck group (reproducing Magritte's “The Listening Room”), Jackson Browne's 1974 album, “Late for the Sky”, with artwork inspired by Magritte's “L'Empire des Lumières”, and the Firesign Theatre's album “Just Folks” . . . A Firesign Chat based on “The Mysteries of the Horizon”.

I like so much the Magritte’s paintings, I love his “this is not a pipe” this picture seems to be a contradiction, but is a true: the painting is not a pipe; it is an image of a pipe. Magritte points out the reality can not be found by the realism-art itself, because the image of thing will be always an image of it, but not the thing itself.

Transantiago....

Thursday, 27 August 2009

Well, the public transport has improved considerably, since the era of yellow buses, at that time I never used to much, but used the metro. Now I occupy the Tran-Santiago every day to go to university.

The good of tran-santiago: Well, I'm not sure that I have no benchmark against which to compare with, but I like it because transhipments from bus to subway are free, so you spends less. I like that the students have less different price for shipment that is good because has not changed. Besides the new buses are more beautiful, I love that each sector of the city has its own colour I live in Zone G and his colours is blue. Another good point is the fact that it exist special corridors for the public transportation.

The bad points: the are many, but the most important is that the buses are filling up at the times of high demand, and because there are not sufficient quantity of buses, travel times become longer (I hate to wait the bus >.< ) but I think the system to pay with the Bip card is safer than the yellow buses because you don’t need coins to pay.

I think the spite of details this system can improve travel times and the frequency of buses or subway.

ANIMAL`S RIGHTS

Animals are part of our lives, they give us your love and company, give us moments of joy. it is only fair that we also want the best for them but there are many cases where animals are victims of abuse and neglect and their abusers to escape punishment.
The reality is that: in Chile doesn’t exist laws in protection of the animal’s rights. Slightly over half of the population in Chile have a pet and theme is considering a part of the family. But some people don’t care theirs pets or abandoned them to their fate. when you have a pet you have a responsability with them, the animal abuse begins with the irresponsible owners. animals end up wandering the streets and suffer the consequences of the neglect of human. therefore it is important to take care of our pets because they also have life and feelings.

For some time ago I saw in the news in the tv the noticed of a protector of animals that kept the poor animals in appalling conditions, had no food or water and they were full of parasites. many people to protest at this abuse, and punishment for those responsible but for different charges to animal abuse. so I think that there should be formal laws for animal protection in addition to existing institutions and that people should be aware if you have a pet and not going to care as it is better not to have a pet.
